Coir/Kokos is the fibre extracted from the coconut husk. This is a strong naturally coloured fibre.

Coir fibres are found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. Traditionally extracted by soaking the coconut husk in lagoons and then spun into yarns.

These natural, biodegradable yarns are then woven into a unique range of floor coverings.

Jute is a seasonal crop cultivated in the Bengal region of India, and in Bangladesh. It is an annual, inter crop, after paddy cultivation.

It grows in plain alluvial soil and standing water and needs plenty of sunshine and rainfall. After the seeds are sown, within 100 days it is grown upto 14' and ready for harvest. The fibre is taken from the skin of the plant. The woody hemp is soaked in water nearly a month to extract 12' long, soft and shiny fibre.

Sisal plants consist of blade-shaped leaves upto 2 metres tall. It is cultivated in semi-arid regions of Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil etc.

The Sisal plant has a 7-10 year life span and produces 200-250 commercially usable leaves. Each leaf contains an average of around 1000 fibres. Sisal fibre is extracted from the leaf by crushing and beating by machines. The fibre is then brushed and baled for export. Traditionally used for rope and twine, Sisal has many uses, including paper, cloth and carpets.
